Dear Doctors
In preparation for the coming breeding season, and as requested by Thoroughbred stallion owners, the certificate of stud health for maiden and barren mares has been updated since last year. A sample is attached.
The section for the uterine bacteriological exam is once again compulsory for barren mares and must be signed off by a registered veterinarian. This is part D of the form.
The updated triplicate forms are yellow and will be available, together with the swabbing kits, and new SB barcodes from the 3rd of July.
Part A is for the mare identification details.
Part B serves as the submission form for the bacterial venereal PCR panel.
NOTE: Parts A and B must be fully completed for each mare. Samples cannot not be processed by the laboratory if Parts A and/or B are incomplete.
Part C is completed only once results have been obtained.
Part D is compulsory for barren mares only.
Surplus kits from last year may be used but please ensure the following:
Please ensure that if you are requested to collect swabs or sign off the on the certificate of stud health, that the form is correctly and fully completed.
We will distribute the forms and swab kits via the Breeders Clubs and at central vet practices, but should you have any queries or are unable to get hold of the kits, please contact Dr Melanie Scholtz on 082 082 7971 or myself.
Please feel free to contact Dr Bennie van der Merwe as TBA Veterinary rep, on083 460 4066 if you have any queries or concerns.
